Next Tuesday 8th March marks International Women’s Day 2022.
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a day for everyone around the world to collectively celebrate the achievements of women- socially, economically, culturally, and politically. More so than that, IWD is a time for us all to reflect and to take action to push forwards towards a gender-equal world.
The Restaurant Association is using this as an opportunity to showcase some of our incredible wahine hospitality heroes. While wahine today dominate the hospitality industry, we want to make sure that our women achievers are given the recognition they deserve.
Food for thought- Some 2021 insights on gender diversity in the hospitality industry:
- Women account for 57% of the hospitality industry
- On average women earn $3/hour less than their male counterparts
- In 2020, the proportion of women holding senior management positions globally increased to 29% (that’s still well below a third of high-level positions)
- Throughout the pandemic, statistically more women lost employment, or had to sacrifice their employment to take up the roles of carer or help with home schooling
Women have been making leaps and bounds but we still have a long way to go for equality.
Will you help us break the bias?
Imagine a gender equal world.
A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.
A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
A world where difference is valued and celebrated.
Together we can forge women’s equality.
Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.
