RA advocacy activity in May 2023

We are proud to be a vocal, impassioned leader for our sector, having been in the corner of Kiwi hospitality businesses since 1972. At any one time, we have a variety of advocacy activities on the go, bringing real-world insight and rigour to the issues being considered by policymakers which affect our membership. Explore some of our activity over May 2023:

  • Made a submission to the Climate Change Commission on the second Emissions Reduction Plan.
  • The Association met with 80+ business owners at a Chinese business community meeting organised by MP, Naisi Chen.
  • Provided feedback to MBIE on the Exploring a Government Policy Statement (GPS) for the immigration system in response to the Productivity Commissions recommendations.With the application to initiate Hospitality industry Fair Pay Agreement bargaining now approved, the Association applied to be an employer bargaining party on 30 May (approval granted 26 June).
  • Met with Minister Hon. Michael Wood to discuss the industry and current challenges.
  • Met with MP, Simeon Brown.
  • Wrote to the Minister of Tourism regarding the Better Work Plan and the inclusion of hospitality throughout the Plan.
  • Held webinars for the industry to provide guidance on the Fair Pay Agreement process.
  • Created guidance material and templates for employers around their requirements through the FPA process.
  • Applied to MBIE to be an employer bargaining party for the hospitality industry Fair Pay Agreement bargaining (approved 26 June, 2023).
  • Prepared industry comment on Budget 2023 and provided information to industry members on key takeouts for Budget 2023.
