2024 Q2 Hospitality Sales Snapshot

The 2024 Q2 Hospitality Sales Snapshot provides top line statistics on the hospitality industry.

With data sourced from Statistics New Zealand and the Restaurant Association, the Q2 Report provides relevant data on the state of the hospitality industry.

Selected highlights:

• The second quarter of 2024 reported a growth rate of 1.4 per cent over the year previous.
• Total sales for the industry over the second quarter of 2024 were $3.82 billion.
• Dollar value of sales for the restaurant and cafe sector over the second quarter of 2024 was $1.87 billion.
• Regionally, revenue growth vs the previous year in the Taranaki region was highest for the 2nd quarter of 2024. In dollar value, the region increased from $55.8 million sales in Q2 2023 to $63.4 million sales in Q2 2024. Queenstown-Lakes revenue growth was 9.3 per cent growth over the same period the year previous.

• Quarterly sales data by sector for Q2 (restaurants & cafés; pubs, taverns & bars; catering; food to go; and clubs), showing sales trend over previous year and previous quarter
• Regional outlook for sales for Q2 covering the following regions:  Northland Region, Auckland Region, Waikato Region, Bay of Plenty Region, Gisborne Region, Hawke’s Bay Region, Taranaki Region, Manawatu-Wanganui Region, Wellington Region, West Coast Region, Tasman Region, Nelson Region, Marlborough Region, Kaikoura, Canterbury Region excl Kaikoura, Otago Region excl Queenstown-Lakes, Queenstown-Lakes, Southland Region
