There has been some recent confusion around the ability of cafes and restaurants to accommodate reusable coffee cups during these heightened alert levels.
The Alert level 2 and 3 guidelines state that reusable cups are permissible.
Businesses can decide if they will allow customers to use reusable cups. This includes personal keep cups and in-house reusable coffee cup schemes. If you decide to allow reusable cups, you must have good hygiene practices in place, managing food safety risks, and adhering to food safety requirements.
Using industry examples, we have created signage for you to use to let your customers know how they can use their reusable coffee cup safely during contactless pickup of their takeaway order.
It is up to you to create a system that allows you to have no direct contact with the customer. We recommend a defined space for leaving the cup adhering to all other requirements for the applicable alert level.
