The Hospitality Dashboard is a monthly snapshot of the industry, covering key data, initiatives led by the industry over the month, member commentary, future considerations and the common pain points.

In January 2022:

Most regular feedback:

  • Businesses need customers but government messaging is contributing to customer hesitancy around hospitality.
  • Reopening of our border seenas a priority to help businesses to get through the next stage.
  • Operators indicate Red is more challenging than lockdown – financial support removed, yet turnover severely impacted.
  • There is significant concern about managing self-isolation impacts when Omicron peaks.

Actions led by the industry this month:

  • Consulted and provided industry feedback to DPMC and MBIE on the first weeks of the traffic light setting and border reopening proposals.
  • Updated detailed guidance for the hospitality industry to operate under changes to the Covid-19 Protection Framework at RED.
  • Created campaign to encourage customers to dine out, providing guidance on the rules and highlighting what the industry is doing to keep people safe.
  • HospoStart Auckland and Waikato, provided 30 unemployed New Zealanders with training in hospitality, work experience and job placement.
  • Reviewed and created 9 new industry-specific resources to assist the industry.
  • Involved in the delivery of business support through the Activate Tamaki Makaurau platform and as a founding partner provided free resources and guidance.
