Online snapshot survey: Level 2.5 & 2 (September 2020)

posted on

The Restaurant Association sought member feedback on the impact of Covid-19 in a series of short surveys.

This survey was conducted on 6 September, 2020.

As the country returned to heightened alert levels (2.5  in Auckland and  2 outside of Auckland), this survey sought feedback on the current impact of the level changes to member businesses.

Key findings:

  • 59 per cent of Auckland members and 45 per cent of members outside of Auckland indicated that turnover was significantly lower compared to the same time last year.
  • In Auckland, of those respondents that indicated that their sales were lower (91 per cent of respondents), on average they were 46% lower than the same time last year.  (Again, for Auckland, this is some improvement from the 64% reduction in turnover at Level 3).
MEMBER FEEDBACK:

“2.5 has been devastating to our business. Father’s Day promotions saw 60% less customer spend compared to last year.  We are only achieving approximately 40% capacity. With this drop in sales, we are having to implement a restructure and lay off staff to ensure our business can survive into the future.”
